Abstract

As an online tool for scheduling loading ramps, time slot management systems offer work-sharing organizations and widely linked supply networks the possibility to accomplish a smoothing of their working load curve at the loading ramps due to the higher level of planning. In order to generate those effects, a process design is required that considers the interfaces within the process as well as an evaluation of their risks. Because of that, Wewalka GmbH Nfg.KG decided to realize a project where the occurring interfaces during the process modelling were kept in mind throughout the implementation of the time slot booking system at the incoming goods department. Therefore, in a first step the different methods for process recording and documenting were evaluated regarding to their application in a following interface- and risk-analysis. Furthermore, a classification including a documentation of the interfaces was done previously to developing the so called „Interface-Risktree“ for estimating the occurring risks at those interfaces. Taking the critical factors for success into consideration during the software implementation, the objectives of the project were defined. In addition to this, in a survey the stakeholders such as employees, suppliers and their shippers were asked about their view of the impact of time slot management on the processes. Based on that, after defining the necessary additional process steps for working with the time slot management, software guidelines for process designing were evolved as a basis for embedding those into the already existing processes while optimizing them simultaneously. According to the anew review using the Interface-Risktree again, this enabled significantly improved processes designed due to the software implementation.
