    Abstract

This master´s thesis presents an overview of pollutant elimination in aquatic systems with zero valent iron based on chemical and physical aspects. As a result of extensive literature research a spectrum of harmful substances treatable with zero valent iron is summarized and selected substances were tested with zero valent iron in a laboratory. The laboratory work was structured in batch- and fluid bed experiments, whereby the results were utilized with respect to reaction kinetics. This contains the kinetic order and half-life. Another part of the practical work was to suggest the existing elimination mechanism like reduction or adsorption. The decrease rates of all tested harmful substances are compared with each other and to the published results in the summarized literature.
