Abstract
Production of deoxidation granules for steel metallurgy is carried out by re-melting of aluminum scrap in a two-chamber furnace. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of different scrap processing techniques, like screening of fines and pyrolysis, on the metal yield and mass of skimmed dross. Therefore, melting experiments on a small scale with addition of two different types of scrap into a primary aluminum template are conducted according to the industrial process with variation of the pretreatment. Furthermore, using pyrometallurgical processing with addition of salt presents a possibility to determine the Al-metal content in the formed dross and the maximum of recoverable metallic aluminium in the scrap. By comparing the metal yields between the different experiments the importance of scrap pretreatment can be evaluated.
