Abstract
Improving the treatment of thermodynamic modelling of precipitation kinetics makes it necessary to account for the stored elastic and interface energies of non-spherical strengthening particles. The existing kinetic concepts available for spherical precipitates can be directly adapted to spheroidal precipitates by introducing shape factors, thus approximating shapes differing from spheres. This paper provides shape factors for the stored elastic and interface energies over a wide range of aspect ratios as well as of elastic material properties.
