Abstract

Activated carbons are promising materials for hydrogen storage applications. While significant research has already been conducted regarding the adsorption properties of activated carbons, little is known about the effect of hydrogen charging and the typically present low operating temperatures on the mechanical properties of these materials. This work focused on investigating the mechanical properties of activated carbon granules and pellets by micromechanical experiments at room temperature. Therefore, two sample preparation methods were investigated, and their suitability for subsequent micromechanical experiments was evaluated.
