Abstract
The aim of this master thesis were sedimentological and sedimentpetrographical investigations of siliciclastic sediments in the area of the Grosser Dürrenbach and the Radischbach SSE of Maria Elend (Karavanks). To determine the geological and stratigraphic positions, stratigraphic and facies investigations were used, to get a better base for further hydrogeological investigations. Most common in the study area are the Gutenstein formation (north-alpine and the Werfen formation (south-alpine). Both units have the function of a water-barrier. As there is a marginal appearance of the north-alpine Raibler formation and the south-alpine Auernig layers, they are playing only a subordinated part in the study area, in comparison to the above named water steaming formations. By the reason of the complicated differentiation and the stratigraphic classification of the Werfen formation, it was necessary to take samples as a standard from the Northern Calcareous Alps of the Werfen formation, and to examine these samples. As a base for further hydrogeological interpretations, a geological map was compiled. It shows that the impermeable layers of the Werfen and Gutenstein formation are the rocks with the largest surface area in the field of work. Result is a bigger surface runoff and higher evaporations as it estimated before.
