Abstract

To remain competitive in the global market, companies are dependent on providing their services in an effective and efficient way related to costs and quality. To guarantee low costs and high quality, cost saving and productivity increasement potentials have to be uncovered and exploited. One way to do so is the improvement of the part feeding process respectively the part feeding strategy in the production area to avoid high inventory and capital commitment costs on the one hand and to provide the production with enough material to avoid productions stoppages on the other hand. Therefore, a simulation study is carried out with the KTM Components GmbH as an example to compare different demand-oriented part feeding strategies related to different KPIs such as inventory of containers at the working stations or the utilization of the transport vehicle. Subsequently, the solutions of the simulation are discussed and the best strategies are determined.
