One of today's challenges in the field of intralogistics is to provide materials with a sophisticated material supply system in a way that transport routes and material stocks can be kept low. At the same time the material supply to production lines should still be ensured at any time. Especially in the automotive industry, there is a strong focus on this topic where it is often tried to achieve this by applying lean principles. These principles can be seen as guidelines for the design of a material supply system. Nevertheless, there are many different alternatives to design such a system in a target-driven manner. The system-parameterization also confronts companies with major challenges. In this master thesis, the requirements as well as current possibilities in the design of a material supply system are collected. Furthermore, a simulation-based approach is chosen to assess the possibilities previously considered and to achieve the best possible parameterization. To elaborate requirements for the material supply system, lean principles on the one hand, and a "holistic production system" - based on the toyota production system - on the other hand, are considered. With the resulting design principles, different means of conveyance are considered and evaluated. In the empirical part of this thesis, the proposed approach is applied within a case study to show improvement potentials of logistical target variables. In particular, the target variables "production area requirement due to material stocks" and "utilisation of the material supply system" are considered. The developed material supply system is evaluated by a material flow simulation through the logistical target variables. To make improvement potentials visible, the material supply system currently used in the case study is also simulated. With the especially for the simulation created experimental plan, the influences of internal delivery quantities, minimum stock-ranges, transport capacities and the delivery interval are also examined. Finally, a material supply system including parameterisation is determined, which shows a positive effect in the fulfilment of the considered logistic targets.
