Abstract

The manufacturing site of FCI Austria GmbH in Mattighofen was partly supplied by an external warehouse (supermarket) in Salzburg. With the goal of reducing the resulting high material and transportation costs, the company set the task to integrate the external close-by supermarket in Mattighofen in the course of an internship. The flow of information and material was controlled by the combination of an internal as well as an external Kanban cycle. In order to include all of the available (production) materials in Mattighofen, stocks had to be reduced considerably without interfering with the continuous supply of the operating manufacturing cells. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the necessary foundations to provide the relevant background information and describes the applied Lean methods and elements with focus on the implementation of the Pull principle by a Kanban cycle. The system boundaries, determined from a status quo analysis, as well as the involved departments and their processes are presented in the practical part of this thesis. Based on a detailed data collection and determination of space required, a new warehouse layout was designed which enabled a balancing of the stocks held and the reintegration of external materials. In summary, the clearly structured approach and the successful application of Lean methods enabled the integration of the warehouse in Mattighofen within six months.
