    Abstract

Within the scope of this scientific work, a concept for an alternative fluid machine is to be developed. The biggest advantage of this machine is the simple construction and the small number of individual components. While conventional fluid-flow machines consist of a large number of components and usually a free jet of water hits guide vanes, in this example the energy of the water is to be converted into kinetic energy through specially shaped flow channels. Already at the conception stage, attention is paid to the fact that the turbomachine can be used both as a pump and as a turbine. Subsequently, this type is produced with the highest possible quality using additive manufacturing. For testing, test benches are required for both pump and turbine operation. These test benches enable the performance of the individual specimens to be determined. In pump operation, the optimum operating point within a certain speed range is determined. The pump is largely optimized by varying the design parameters. For this purpose, an attempt is made to change one parameter at a time, if possible, and to define which of these parameters leads to a more efficient pump through the subsequent tests. Following the optimization process, the selected model with the highest expected overall efficiency is tested as a turbine. Another essential task is to couple this turbine function with a compressed air system. The idea behind this is to couple this turbine apparatus, in order to increase efficiency, to processes in which excess compressed air is generated at a low pressure level. This compressed air is to be used to accelerate and convey fluid, which in turn is to rotate the turbine as an air-water mixture. Thus, electric current could be generated from surplus operating fluid by a generator flanged to the turbine shaft.
