Abstract

The aim of this work is to evaluate recycling methods that enable the recycling of skis. The epoxy bonds in the ski are to be dissolved so that the individual layers can be returned to the value creation cycle. For this purpose, small sections of a composite ski were treated with isopropanol under supercritical conditions and the separation of the individual layers was assessed. Furthermore, the influence of individual parameters such as temperature, pressure, catalyst concentration, solvent quantity, and stirring of the solution on the separation quality was evaluated, and the quality of the recovered materials was examined using FTIR, DSC, and optical microscopy. In a second separation series, the composite skis were separated using formic acid under normal conditions, as described in patent number WO/2024/125740, and the two methods were compared.
