Abstract

In recent years, the systematic development of competencies based on the concept of Industry 4.0 can be considered as the main opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of both small- and medium-sized enterprises and larger corporations. However, especially within the engineering disciplines, there still seems to be a lack of understanding in terms of building, respectively reshaping, application-orientated competence profiles according to the requirements and needs of industry and society. This paper designs an exemplary competence profile for industry logistics engineering education by referring to the recent literature on competence development. As a result, professional and transversal competences are discussed in the areas of inbound, production, and outbound logistics. The results can be used as a reference for the systematic development of transdisciplinary competence development within industrial engineering education initiatives.
