Abstract

According to current knowledge, the reserves of today’s open pit mine on Rabenwald are sufficient till 2033. To extend the life of mine, it is necessary to expand the todays south pit. For that purpose, the Lili-claim in the south of the actual pit was chosen. This master theses represents a feasibility study, which shows how the expected economical and mining specific situation could be in a future Lili-pit. According to the actual block model which contains the area of the Lili-claim, a mine design was done with the software datamine. This planning of the Lili-pit showed that approximately 1.5 million tons of talk could be mined. Based on today’s yearly talc production of 100.000 tonnes, the life of mine could be extended to 2048. To gain a financial analysis of the Lili-pit, the hauling capacity of the waste fleet was calculated. Additionally, the assessment of the fuel consumption and the service costs of the hauling trucks were considered. These calculations and the assumption that the costs of the future talc fleet correlates with today’s talc fleet, allowed a statement about the economic viability of the future pit. This financial analysis and a sensitivity analysis have shown that even larger deviations of the assumed values allow a profitable mining. The study of an external dump for the waste of the south pit in the years from 2022 to 2026 showed that a dump on the “Schlagbauer”-lawn could offer potential savings in the Lili pit. This external dump bears also the risk of technical and financial issues, which have to be analysed in more detail. With the planning of a new road to the mine site, a needed infrastructural adjustment due to the Lili pit was considered.
