Abstract

As the need of modern society for electrical energy not only remains at a constant high but is also growing permanently the challenge to meet isn’t just to provide that energy but also how to do so in a sustainable way (referring to commodity, manpower and capital investment). That is why the field of renewable energy has been strongly invested in again in recent years. Since a blind extension of the potential output of the renewable energy sources already in place could lead to a destabilization of the power supply system (for neither the wind nor the sun are constants) other areas like the supply system itself and the energy storage technologies have to be extended or researched in for suitable methods. Considering the varied ways (chemical, electro-chemical, mechanical, thermal) electrical energy can be stored temporarily the diploma thesis on hand attends mainly to the area of thermodynamic energy storage. In so doing the technologies of adiabatic compressed air energy storage (ACAES), pumped heat energy storage (PHES), liquid air energy storage (LAES) and electro thermal energy storage (ETES) have been analyzed with regard to their suitability and further set in comparison with each other. To do so the individual processes have been modulated and simulated through EBSILON Professional.
