Abstract

This master thesis, in cooperation with voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl GmbH & Co KG, focuses on the microstructural evolution of a cast nickel-based alloy during deformation and heat treatments. The aim of the work is to find deformation and heat treatment combinations, which lead to a more homogenous and finer microstructure. Therefore, compression tests with varying strains, strain rates and temperatures as well as different heat treatments are carried out. For the compression experiments cylindrical and cuboid samples were deformed on a DSI Gleeble 3800. Subsequently the samples were heat treated in a chamber furnace. The examination of the resulting microstructure and the evaluation of the recrystallized fractions was carried out using a light optical microscope, as well as a scanning electron microscope.
