Abstract
An existing apparatus to investigate the flame propagation in a dust-air mixture will be redesigned and rebuilt in a way that testing under reduced pressure conditions (below atmospheric pressure) will be possible. The general requirement is that the system is hermetically sealed and the pressure drop is very low (only a few mbar). The central part of the system is a transparent pipe of PMMA, in which the experiments will take place. The system will only consist of pipe connections and all openings will be tightly sealed. The dust-air mixture will be ignited by a high-voltage spark of an electrical igniter. The dust used in the testing system is Lycopodium. Furthermore first experiments with different dust concentrations under reduced pressure conditions will be conducted and analyzed
