Abstract
Directional Drilling is a technology to drill a deviated well.
The focus lies on the actual build-up rates of wells. Three main categories are used to achieve build up rates, rotary-, conventional steerable- and rotary steerable systems. The main target of the diploma thesis was to calculate build-up rates from already drilled wells with five selected models. The models focused on rotary- and conventional steerable systems. One of these models was set-up using a new combination from sight force and bit steerablity. First, the used bottom hole assemblies were analysed to get the necessary data for predicting build-up rates. These data were put into the selected models. The calculations were made in programs written in Excel and with proprietary softwares provided by the companies. The results of calculated build-up rates were compared with the actual values and shown in diagrams. In case of high deviation from the real values, the main parameter influencing build-up rates was investigated.
Through the change of parameters it was possible to get a new build-up rate actually closer to the real values. Finally, a comparison between the models was completed. Hence it was possible to give recommendations as to which models acts best under special conditions.
