Abstract
Due to growing customer demands, competitive pressure and limited space, companies are increasingly faced with the challenge of optimizing their processes and layouts. Goods receipt and storage areas usually take up large parts of the layout and therefore offer enormous potential for improvement. The aim of this work is to find approaches and measures that can result in possible improvements in companies, especially in processes of goods receipt and storage areas. In addition, these results should be used to develop recommendations for improved space utilization and more efficient material flow, and to measure the effects of these improvements. For this, the study situation was analyzed by means of a systematic literature review and measures for improvement were identified. These recommendations served as the basis for the development of different layout variations. In addition to recommending a systematic approach and the use of simulation, recommendations are made regarding sustainability aspects. Based on a quantitative and qualitative data survey, the original company layout and two alternatives were created. By measuring the performance of the different proposals using key performance indicators, a recommended layout is found. In addition to recommending a new company layout, this thesis provides concrete approaches for designing more efficient goods receipt and warehouse processes.
