Abstract
Order creation and order release are tasks which have to be attended to in every manufacturing company. Solving them with due regard to all relevant parameters is a difficult problem, in particular if sequence-dependent setup times and assignment to one of multiple available work systems have to be taken into consideration. Software support in this field often does little more than provide the necessary information to an experienced production-planner. This is due to the fact, that none of the known methods in this area takes care of other objectives than schedule adherence and workload. Two methods are developed and described, which take into account sequence-dependent setup times and the assignment of orders to work systems. One is a multiobjective genetic algorithm, for which an encoding of individual solutions and several newly developed mutation operators are presented. The other is a simple heuristic, which avoids the genetic algorithm's problems regarding runtime and stability of the solution. Both methods are compared and it is shown which method is better in which context.
