Abstract

In the frame of designing the assembly line for impact apparatus of the type TE1000/TE1500, Hilti AG asked me to draw up a concept for efficient parts supply according to lean management principles. The objective was to guarantee a consistent parts supply in the assembly line. It is essential to make sure that there is as least material in the process line as possible and that the logistic effort for the parts supply is not too high. Furthermore, taking into account the knowledge gathered during the conception of the reference assembly line TE 1000/TE 1500, a standardised procedure for the design of the supply concept of future assembly lines should be established. Having laid down the basic concepts, the current organisation of the material flows and the logistic operations of Hilti AG are presented. I then will try to identify heuristically the supply concepts possible for this reference assembly line. However, I intend to replace this intensive and errorprone heuristic solution by a much simpler but only approximate solution. Based on this analysis a standardised procedure for logistic conception of future systems is to be identified; I also will describe logistic aspects of the manufacturing control. As a conclusion, it can be said that logistics have an interdepartmental function in the assembly supply. This means that an efficient supply according to lean management principles can only be maintained with a broader approach encompassing several functions and with having a view to logistics in all phases of the planning and designing of an assembly line.
