Abstract
The requirements of EU waste management law for recycling of construction and demolition waste materials are fulfilled with a recycling rate of over 80 % in Austria. The current challenge in the further development of waste management is to expand circulation industry as well as recycling industry through targeted use of resources potentials of construction and demolition waste. Therefore, cross–industry possibilities of material recovery must be studied to make increased use of them. The possibility of material recovery of fine particle fractions as an alternative raw material for the clinker production was supported by environmental and technical laboratory measurements and by industrial tests in the cement industry, which were documented and discussed. Positive and negative results could be achieved and potentials for optimization were described. Based on material cycles of fine particle fractions the complexity of single steps of material recovery could be shown in correlation with legal and technical influence. This thesis could only be created by the support of the companies Lafarge Zementwerke GmbH, Prajo–Böhm Recycling GmbH and Water & Waste GmbH.
