Quantification of carry-over slag from primary metallurgical aggregates by means of mass balances

In general, the amount of carry-over slag is an indicator for the tapping performance of primary metallurgical aggregates. For the quantification in the past, several approaches were used and published in literature. Within a bachelor thesis on the Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben a new calculation model based on element mass balances and process data from voestalpine Stahl Linz GmbH was developed. In this paper, all features of this model are shortly introduced. The focus lays on the limitations of the calculation method and resulting potentials, especially regarding to the quantification of carry-over slag from the rephosphorization rate in secondary metallurgy.
