Application of the Target Pressure and Phase Method to the Szeged-Móraváros Field

The Target Pressure and Phase Method is a technique for assessing the quality of a static reservoir model, based on production and pressure data. This master thesis presents the successful application of the method on a typical reservoir in the Pannonian Basin, namely the Szeged-Móraváros field. The field is located in South-East Hungary, discovered in 1974 and operated by MOL national oil company. The geological model was built based on in-house interpretations. Following the usual reservoir engineering approach, history matching was performed (utilizing E100/E300 software packages) based on one of the possible static model realizations, and then this model was used for investigating future development scenarios. The history matching showed an inadequate level of consistency with the measured well production data; therefore the model cannot be the object for forecast. Since it was impossible to achieve an acceptable match by any tuning within a reasonable time-frame, a direct method to highlight the unsuitable locations of the static model was considered beneficial. The Target Pressure and Phase Method assure the correct three-phase production of all the wells by enabling them to automatically search for the required amount of phases in their entire drainage volume. The reservoir pressure is maintained on the required level by the automatic operation of the aquifer through the original aquifer connections. The setup of the model validation run does not require any data other than an adequately long production and pressure history. One single validation run was performed on the Szeged-Móraváros model, after conversion to H5 format. During this run, the model was operated by TPPM, assured that all the wells productions and the reservoir pressures were in agreement with the measured data at any point in time during the entire history. In a case of a few wells it was impossible to do so, indicating that improvement at certain locations of the static model are necessary. This work demonstrate the applicability and the advantages of the method in general and special its performance on the examined field. It also gives suggestions on where and how the static model of Szeged-Móraváros should be improved.
