Auslegung alternativer Schnapphaken-Geometrien am Beispiel eines Babyschnullers

This thesis – Dimensioning of Alternative Snap-Fit Geometry using for Example the Pacifier – was written in cooperation with MAM Babyartikel GmbH. Using state-of-the-art computer aided engineering (CAE) techniques a novel snap-fit joint is constructed. Both the assembling process and the behaviour in various load cases are reproduced virtually. The main purpose of this thesis is to optimize the product geometry with respect to the manufacturing costs as well as the reliability of the snap-fit under load. The starting point of the new geometry is a design that is already being used in manufacturing. This thesis also covers the theoretical fundamentals of Finite-Element analysis as well as the distinct characteristics of non-linear simulations. Five different designs for the snap-fit joint are proposed in this thesis. The most promising geometry is used to create an injection mould and prototype casts. Finally, measurements obtained from the prototype parts are compared to the FEM simulation results. The numerical computations in this thesis are performed using the Abaqus CAE software suite. The models in this thesis take in account non-linear material properties, non-linear boundary conditions and non-linear deformation behaviours.
